Put away the gods which your fathers served

Gideon-judge

From the Old Testament to the New Testament, there is ongoing exhortation to worship the Lord God only.

I Corinthians 10:20 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.

21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.

Joshua 23:7 That ye come not among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow yourselves unto them:

Joshua 24:14 Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the Lord.

15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

16 And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the Lord, to serve other gods;

Judges 2:2 And an angel of the Lord came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you.

2 And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?

3 Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.

Judges 6:8 That the Lord sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage;

9 And I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, and drave them out from before you, and gave you their land;

10 And I said unto you, I am the Lord your God; fear not the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice.

When idols, and the demons behind those idols, were worshipped, there was a lot of suffering that came to the nation.  Then the people would cry out to God.  God, in his mercy, would send a leader to help.

Here is one example…that of Gideon.

Judges 6:13 And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the Lord be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt? but now the Lord hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.

14 And the Lord looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?

It is noteworthy that after God called Gideon, Gideon had to take down the altar to Baal.  And when this was accomplished, and the men of the city knew of it, they wanted to kill Gideon.  Gideon’s father, Joash, stood in the gap for Gideon.  That indicates that Joash was not unaware that the altar was wrong; it was his son, Gideon, that did something about it.

Judges 6:25 And it came to pass the same night, that the Lord said unto him, Take thy father’s young bullock, even the second bullock of seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it:

26 And build an altar unto the Lord thy God upon the top of this rock, in the ordered place, and take the second bullock, and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the grove which thou shalt cut down.

27 Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as the Lord had said unto him: and so it was, because he feared his father’s household, and the men of the city, that he could not do it by day, that he did it by night.

28 And when the men of the city arose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was cast down, and the grove was cut down that was by it, and the second bullock was offered upon the altar that was built.

29 And they said one to another, Who hath done this thing? And when they enquired and asked, they said, Gideon the son of Joash hath done this thing.

30 Then the men of the city said unto Joash, Bring out thy son, that he may die: because he hath cast down the altar of Baal, and because he hath cut down the grove that was by it.

31 And Joash said unto all that stood against him, Will ye plead for Baal? will ye save him? he that will plead for him, let him be put to death whilst it is yet morning: if he be a god, let him plead for himself, because one hath cast down his altar.

32 Therefore on that day he called him Jerubbaal, saying, Let Baal plead against him, because he hath thrown down his altar.

Here is a modern day version of an idol.  It is quite disgusting.

It is when society blindly allows these images to demons to exist, then society is actually inviting demons into a certain area.  This kind of an image opens a spiritual door to evil and should not go unchallenged.  We should not be spiritually ignorant, stupid, or complacent about these things.

II Corinthians 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

If we are complacent as a society, then we have no reason to complain about why everything is getting worse.

Evil images and statues invite the devil and demons into  that particular geographical region.  Jesus clearly taught the devil comes to steal, kill, and destroy.

Look at the spiritual level of the United States, its overall temperature so-to-speak in entertainment, books, news, images, art…and look at the state of destruction of the nation.

Note that Gideon, above, was saying why has all this befallen us?  Why has all this happened to us?

Judges 6:13 And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the Lord be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt? but now the Lord hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.

But the prior scriptures, and there are many more which could be cited, indicate that God had already told them why they were losing to their enemies.  Gideon really didn’t need to ask the question.  God had already told the nation what was necessary for blessing.

It’s not a difficult concept.  People talk about how one “first bad choice” can lead to more and more and more.  That is on an individual scale.  One act can open the door to more destruction.

But a bad choice can also occur at a city and state and national level as well.  An evil statue is more than bad art.  It can be an open invitation to the devil to come into a region.  A law contrary to God is more than bad law, it is an invitation to the devil.

You can’t say you believe in Jesus Christ and then create so-called art glorifying the devil or legislate for the devil or for the devil’s candidates.  It doesn’t work like that.

Belief, mental assent, is not enough.  There have to be godly actions to correspond to belief.

James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

This goes beyond any political party.  This has to do with spiritual choices and the consequences.

We need to wake up and say no, we are not going to have evil images that are the modern day version of idols.  The alumni of the University of Houston should speak out against this.  Donors should vote no by no longer donating to their alma mater.

We understand a lot more now, on this side of the cross, and if we act worse than they did in the Old Testament, where Jesus had not yet come in person to instruct them of these things, then is it any wonder that such harsh judgements are come upon the United States?  The nation has broken covenant with the Lord; early colonies made covenants with God, and have broken those covenants.  We are more accountable; we know more, we should do better.

Luke 12:47 And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

Matthew 12:41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

So how do we cast down these modern day idols?  Again, since this is connected to the University of Houston, one way for donors to express their displeasure is to quit donating to a woke statue.

Whatever the circumstance, instead of going along to get along or remaining silent, various individuals and groups are beginning to show up and speak out…whether at a school board meeting. or by voting with their purchasing dollars, or by dropping subscriptions to institutions gone woke, or by using the law and pressing charges when appropriate.

The Apostle Paul referred to the body of Christ functioning as a whole.  There are various applications to that idea.  But certainly one application is that society overall, consisting of many people, each operating in his or her own sphere of influence, are all needed to resist the satanic encroachment on society.  One person alone will not stem the tide.  But many people, all resisting in their own particular ways and realms, spiritually and naturally, will have a cumulative effect.

Contrary to what the globalists want you to believe, one person does make a difference when it becomes one plus one plus one and multiplies into masses of people resisting the satanic overlords.
