Why is progressivism being discussed on a Biblically-themed blog?
It is for this reason:
Matthew 13:25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
In context, that verse is part of this longer passage.
Matthew 13:10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.
13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
15 For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
17 For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.
19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.
20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;
21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.
22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:
25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.
27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?
28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?
29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.
30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.
It is not really possible to understand the underlying roots of current events without understanding past Biblical history.
You have to go back to the beginning, to Genesis, to understand.
What happened at the beginning?
God created the heavens and the earth.
When you look at the book of Revelation, it is a book that encompasses a wide range of time; events are not necessarily written in a linear order. In Revelation 12, it talks about satan (here called the great red dragon) and 1/3 of the angels being cast to the earth.
Revelation 12:1 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:
2 And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.
3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.
4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.
5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.
6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.
7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
Jesus made reference to this event when talking to his disciples.
Luke 10:17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Isaiah made reference to this event.
Isaiah 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
We know from these scriptures that Lucifer tried to take the throne of heaven and was subsequently thrown down to the earth. So what did he do then? He no longer had the name, Lucifer, “light bearer”, as due to his rebellion, he had lost the glory God gave him..
He is now known as satan, the devil, the serpent, the great dragon, dragon, great red dragon.
Satan went to Adam, who had been created, and tempted Adam (through Eve) to disobey God. They disobeyed, fell from Eden, lost their dominion, and turned the rulership of the world over to satan. Adam and Eve were cut off from fellowship with God and all the privileges of that fellowship.
In the beginning, the Lord God gave the world to Adam and his posterity.
Psalm 115:16 The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.
Adam, representative of the children of men who would follow, gave it away to the thief, satan.
Jesus said, recorded in John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
What was the Lord God going to do? The Lord God had created man and given man free will. The Lord God had given the earth to mankind.
God is a God of order. How would the Lord God solve the disorder on earth?
Since the crime was created on earth, as a matter of jurisdiction, it had to be solved on earth. God had given the earth to mankind.
We understand jurisdiction.
One of the meanings of jurisdiction is this: Territory within which a court or government agency may properly exercise its power
Adam had been given the dominion on earth. Adam no longer had any spiritual strength or authority to deal with the problem; he had rebelled and lost spiritual authority and strength.
In the legal system on earth there is a matter of jurisdiction. A crime is dealt with where it occurs. You don’t pay for a New Jersey crime in New York. We are dealing with what happened on earth.
The only way God could solve this crime, which happened within the jurisdiction of earth, and remain within the confines of His own decrees and laws, was to come to earth Himself and purchase back mankind, being Himself the sacrifice and propitiation for the demands of justice. This is the purpose of what Jesus did. He returned to mankind, the ability to again fellowship with God (if an individual professes faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and is born again) and have access to the promises of God. You must be born again for this to happen.
Psalm 8:4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
So Jesus defeated devil, and made it possible for mankind, individually, through each individual’s freewill, to reconnect with God, to become adopted into the family of God, to be born again.
I John 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
After His death, burial, and resurrection, Jesus gave authority to the church to enforce the defeat of the devil. All the promises of God, the authority of the name of Jesus, the power of the Blood of Jesus and the weapons of our warfare which are not carnal are related to that authority.
At some point in the future satan will be bound.
Revelation 20:1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.
At some point after that he will be cast into the lake of fire and brimstone.
Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
Satan knows his ultimate end.
Revelation 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
There are those who opposed Jesus when He was on the earth.
John 8:42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?
47 He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
Jesus said, ye are of your father the devil and the lusts of the father ye will do.
Matthew 12:23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?
24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:
26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?
27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.
28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.
29 Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.
30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.
34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
38 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.
39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.
45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.
46 While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.
47 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.
48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?
49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
The people who resist Jesus still exist today. Some are simply ignorant and unawares. Others labor for atheistic agendas, and governments. They can be blinded as to what they are doing.
2 Corinthians 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
If they understood the consequences of what they are doing, they probably would not do it. However, there are those that the Bible says love death more than life.
Proverbs 8:36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.
How does progressivism fit into this background?
While men’s lives have limits of so many years, satan is dealing with eternity and can use one generation after another to fulfill his purposes. Satan can inspire one generation after another to his own, wicked ends. Unregenerate man may think he is doing “his own thing” but he has an unseen master. Satan knows his time is short.
Revelation 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
The topic of “time” is approached differently when viewed in light of eternity. One day with the Lord is as a thousand years.
As stated, the satanic agenda can go on from generation to generation for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
On earth, we understand that some businesses make multi-decade plans that go beyond the leadership of one generation.
In this case, dealing with the red dragon, satan, we are dealing with a longer term plan and objective in time that transcends one generation.
Satan still wants to take over the earth. He was defeated by Jesus at Calvary but Jesus left his authority with his disciples.
Until satan is put under the feet of the disciples, he will run havoc.
This is a sticking point in the church. Whose responsibility is it to deal with satan?
Is it Jesus at the Second Coming?
Is it His Church now? And by Church, I refer to the larger Church consisting of many different denominations.
Everything depends on how you answer that question. And how a person answers that question depends a lot on their study of history and eschatology.
For myself, I’ll give you my answer.
I think it is the responsibility of the church to use the authority that Jesus gave it. I believe that when the church has done enough of its job, that’s when I believe that Jesus will come.
Can I give scriptures for that?
Here are some.
Psalm 91:13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
Luke 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Mark 16:19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
Psalm 8:6 You made him ruler of the works of Your hands; You have placed everything under his feet:
Ephesians 1:22 And God put everything under His feet and made Him head over everything for the church,
We know positionally that God has put everything under the feet of Jesus. In the ultimate view of God, who lives outside of time, it is finished. To us, who live in time, there is an outworking of the promises that we receive through faith and patience.
Hebrews 6:12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
So at this point, I’ll stop there. There will be some who agree, some who don’t, that’s fine. My job is only to point it out.
I am going to take a pause and say this before going on to the topic at hand.
No matter what profession you are in: electrician, plumber, construction work, seamstress, cook/chef, landscaping, retail, medical, homemaker, anything, if you are experienced and walk into a situation in your area of expertise or study, you are going to see things other people don’t see. And the more you know, the more nuances you will notice.
Think about football. Those who are well versed in football see things happening, plays happening, that an occasional viewer miss.
The short story of Rip Van Winkle was written years ago by Washington Irving. It’s a story where Rip Van Winkle falls asleep and wakes up after 20 years. He doesn’t recognize the society to which he returns. Here’s a bit of the story.
As Rip and his companion approached them, they suddenly desisted from their play, and stared at him with such fixed, statue-like gaze, and such strange, uncouth, lack-lustre countenances, that his heart turned within him, and his knees smote together. His companion now emptied the contents of the keg into large flagons, and made signs to him to wait upon the company. He obeyed with fear and trembling; they quaffed the liquor in profound silence, and then returned to their game.
By degrees Rip’s awe and apprehension subsided. He even ventured, when no eye was fixed upon him, to taste the beverage, which he found had much of the flavour of excellent Hollands. He was naturally a thirsty soul, and was soon tempted to repeat the draught. One taste provoked another; and he reiterated his visits to the flagon so often that at length his senses were overpowered, his eyes swam in his head, his head gradually declined, and he fell into a deep sleep.
On waking, he found himself on the green knoll whence he had first seen the old man of the glen. He rubbed his eyes—it was a bright sunny morning. The birds were hopping and twittering among the bushes, and the eagle was wheeling aloft, and breasting the pure mountain breeze. “Surely,” thought Rip, “I have not slept here all night.” He recalled the occurrences before he fell asleep. The strange man with a keg of liquor—the mountain ravine—the wild retreat among the rocks—the woebegone party at ninepins—the flagon—“Oh! that flagon! that wicked flagon!” thought Rip,—“what excuse shall I make to Dame Van Winkle?”
Until I reviewed the story, I didn’t realize he was asleep for 20 years. I think I read a children’s book once where it was 100 years, but apparently, that was inaccurate.
Twenty years works well as a good segue.
I’ve been studying certain topics for twenty years or more.
As I pointed out above, when you are immersed in something every day as your profession, or even your hobby, or your matter of interest, you will become aware of things the casual one-time visitor may not see.
I feel a responsibility to at least point out some of what I’m seeing.
Satan knows his time is short.
Revelation 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
There is currently an agenda, a move to AI, a move to merge man and machine.
My opinion is that the thrust for that move to AI is inspired from satan trying to create a bionic man so that satan can eventually avoid being thrown into hell and the lake of fire. Right now, when demons are either cast out through the authority of Jesus Christ, or when people die, demons leave human bodies.
Matthew 12:43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
If there a bionic body that is not subject to death, as we know it, that changes the parameters of what is possible for satan to remain on the earth and avoid being sent to the pit, and later hell and the lake of fire.
What will allow satan to create this kind of a body? How can man, inspired by satan, learn how to create a bionic man?
Progressivism allows for an ongoing enslavement of mankind with the ultimate end of experimenting with mankind. The end of progressivism is ultimate control over vast sums of humanity. With control over humanity, life becomes cheap. There can be experimentation to attempt to attain the evolution of the bionic man, the next state in evolution. Remember, these people don’t believe in creation, they believe in evolution, and they believe they are in charge of the next stage of evolution. People are treated as collateral. If millions die in an experiment of self-assembling graphite circuitry through a toxic jab, those who serve satan, these globalists “gods” or elites say, (in attitude, and in some cases, verbally), what of it?, they’re jellyfish with no backbone to stand up for themselves, they’re useless eaters.
Progressivism allows for the murder of people that are deemed unworthy or dangerous to the globalists. It has already been covered above how people who are under the control of satan’s agendas have their minds blinded and don’t know w hat they are doing.
In a world of progressivism, where cultural values based on the Bible have been removed, “anything goes” and we see in the recent covid plandemic that there was a throwing away of the original intent Hippocratic Oath* and the traditional values of western civilization of human life, property rights, and respect for the various churches. Bars were kept open. Mega big box stores were kept open.
Churches were not.
Studying all this for many years, it seems that the top level, the top of the food chain, knows exactly what is going on. But they present their agenda to the lower levels as a humanitarian. For example, “take the jab for the good of society”. So they convince people to serve their purposes and only after their objective has been served, do they throw off the cloak of darkness and expose themselves as they are, angels of light.
This is why progressivism needs to be resisted.
Regardless of any views of eschatology, we are called to be good stewards. One of the things we can steward is Christian values and a nation in which those values can operate.
A world with Christian values, or a world with progressivism, based on atheism, and ultimately, service to satan, cannot co-exist.
* Hippocratic Oath: Newer versions of the Hippocratic Oath have been altered to enable those who do not wish to work within its parameters to work outside of its parameters. Outside of invoking the Greek gods, which we would not do nowadays, you can see a real respect for life in the original Hippocratic Oath that no longer exists today. https://www.nlm.nih.gov/hmd/greek/greek_oath.html
There are those who say that do no harm is not in the original oath. Maybe they never read the oath. But if you will read the oath, you will see, I will do no harm, at least at the time of this writing.
Now how long this will remain on the internet before it is deleted, I don’t know, so read it now if you are interested. This is the current footnote:
