Where is God?

The Ten Commandments (Bible Card)

There are those who question the existence of God because they look at death and destruction around them and say, “Where is God?”

There is an expectation that if there is a God (and there is), that he would act in a certain way.   Man wants to create God in man’s image, and do things the way man thinks they should be done, when man thinks they should be done.  However, God has already revealed the knowledge of himself in the Bible.

Psalm 107:7 He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel.

Jeremiah 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

God’s ways are higher than ours.  He sees what we might call “the big picture.”  God has his own priorities, which is the salvation of souls.

II Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Isaiah 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.

9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

One road block to understanding the things of God is the lack of comprehension that Jesus already did what needed to be done to restore mankind,  but it up to mankind (each one individually) to appropriate  what Jesus did through a relationship with Jesus Christ.  There is a certain amount of expectation that God will do the job that was given to mankind.

Psalm 115:16 The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.

Through his life, death, burial, resurrection, ascension, Jesus legally purchased back what was lost at the Fall in the Garden of Eden.

Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Luke 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Mankind has access through Jesus Christ to the authority of the name of Jesus, the power of the blood of Jesus, and the promises of God.  We have to do something with what God has entrusted to us.

If a person has house keys and car keys, but never uses them, the result is the same as not having the keys at all.

The only solution is the preaching of the gospel and further education in the things of God.  Education overcomes ignorance in natural things.  Education overcomes ignorance in the things of God.

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge:….

It is possible for a certain amount of light to filter through. “[W]e see through a glass darkly (I Corinthians 13:12)” as the Apostle Paul said.  A certain amount of the light and the glory of God has filtered through to the earth and the minds of men overall.

But the ultimate solutions for mankind are found in Jesus Christ.

Isaiah 55:6 Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:

7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.

9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
