Lukewarm temperature is created by mixing hot and cold.
Revelation 3:14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
There are two components to the spiritual temperature of a nation.
There is the national overall temperature of “hotness” or “coldness” towards God. And then is the temperature of individuals within the nation.
America was formed by people seeking religious freedom. Because of its early history, it has a greater history with the Lord and so the chastisements talked about in Hebrews can fall harder on it.
Hebrews 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
Luke 12:47 And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
There can be a nation that is basically “cold” towards God, legislating laws contrary to God.
Within that nation, there can be individuals “hot” towards God, seeking to follow God individually.
However, if that “hotness” does not extend to insisting on righteousness in law and order, then you end up with a “lukewarm” situation.
There are those who say, when they are in political office, or in other seats of authority, things to the effect of…I have my personal religious beliefs, but I keep them separate from what I legislate or corporate policy.
That cannot be…at least if you don’t want to end up being lukewarm.
