Jesus at the Marriage in Cana

Brooklyn Museum - The Marriage at Cana (Les noces de Cana) - James Tissot - overall

John 2:1 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:

2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.

3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.

4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.

5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.

6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.

7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.

8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.

9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,

10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.

11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

Tip – New Year’s Resolution – Use a Dictionary

dictionary

In the Old Testament, God told the children of Israel to possess the land.

In today’s world, the land that must be recaptured from the land of wokeness is vocabulary.

This is the process that the progressive left uses to change vocabulary.

A new term or concept is introduced in a manner of “cute” or “trendy” or “viral video”.

After a while, though quite ridiculous, it becomes a part of mainstream thought, because it goes unchallenged.

The idea that a man can have a baby would be an example.

What kind of thinking is this that defies the laws of biology?

What kind of sloppy thinking is this?

Men regard its nature and cause as divine from ignorance and wonder….

— HippocratesOn the Sacred Disease

What would scientists of prior centuries say about some of the recent, woke, unproven ideas?

After the introduction of a term with an unnatural, unscientific, unproven, untested definition, i.e., a  “woke” definition, those who wish to use the traditional form of the word may begin to self-censor…If I say that, what are the consequences?  Will I lose likes on Facebook And in the case of well known celebrities or politicians, Will the press criticize me for not going with the new form of the word?

Then there is persecution against not only the word, but also against the whole cultural lifestyle from which the original word emerged, and against those who prefer the old cultural lifestyle.

Let’s take some common words:  man, woman, marriage, family.

Have you seen the above process in action?

Whenever you question the use of a word, look up the historical meaning of a word.  Don’t look at the modern day meaning, but the historical meaning.

Historical meanings came about as society moved towards law and order, based in part on a Judeo/Christian influence.

Western society is now is a state of de-evolution.  Vocabulary is de-volving as well.

A New Year’s Tip…use a dictionary to look up original, historical meanings of words.

Why Do We Have Depression?

depression

There are many answers to that.  There can be mental answers for which you need to see a specialist.  There can be chemical or physical imbalances, for which you need to see a doctor.

This post cannot deal with all the possibilities of what causes depression.  However, since the blog deals with Biblical questions, it will point out something from a Biblical point of view.  Whether or not it applies to you, is something beyond the scope of this blog to determine.  Seek professional help if you need to.

God created man for fellowship.  Man broke that fellowship in the garden of Eden.   Broken fellowship was passed on for generations.  There is a certain depression or emptiness when a person is not connected to God.

Mankind’s misery of various kinds is generally caused by disobedience to God, by breaking the laws of God, by walking contrary to God, whether deliberately or in ignorance.  If you cross the street in front of traffic, whether deliberately, or in ignorance, the result is generally the same.  This is why it is imperative to keep learning more about God and God’s Word to the end of better and more perfectly walking in God’s ways.

Leviticus 26:14  “‘But if you will not listen to me, and will not do all these commandments, 15 and if you shall reject my statutes, and if your soul abhors my ordinances, so that you will not do all my commandments, but break my covenant, 16 I also will do this to you: I will appoint terror over you, even consumption and fever, that shall consume the eyes, and make the soul to pine away. You will sow your seed in vain, for your enemies will eat it. 17 I will set my face against you, and you will be struck before your enemies. Those who hate you will rule over you; and you will flee when no one pursues you.

The solution is right relationship to Jesus Christ.

Luke 13:10 He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath day. 11 Behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years. She was bent over, and could in no way straighten herself up. 12 When Jesus saw her, he called her, and said to her, “Woman, you are freed from your infirmity.” 13 He laid his hands on her, and immediately she stood up straight and glorified God.

Until Jesus came, there was a partial solution through the law of sacrifices that was set up by God.   You can read about it in the Old Testament.  There was a certain amount of atoning for sin through the sacrifices, but it had to be repeated over and over every year.

When Jesus came, He made a final sacrifice of his life to give the option for people to reconnect to God.  The word “option” is used because it is not automatic.  People must want to and ask to be reconnected to God.  People have to believe in and confess Christ.

Romans 10:6  But the righteousness which is of faith says this, “Don’t say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ (that is, to bring Christ down); or, ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead.)” But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth, and in your heart;” that is, the word of faith which we preach: that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart, one believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in him will not be disappointed.”

As to why Jesus had to die to satisfy God’s requirements is because a holy God cannot overlook sin.  Someone had to pay a price, and Jesus volunteered.

Sometimes we hear the phrase, “freedom isn’t free” because someone paid a price.  Well, to be born again isn’t free either because it cost Jesus everything.
