Regarding the Separation of Church and State

Het verbranden van het onkruid en oogsten van het graan Gelijkenis van de zaaier (serietitel), RP-P-1920-2594

The atheistic, modernistic, secular, progressive world  has generally convinced the church to stay out of matters of the state.

Jesus is speaking in the parable below.

Matthew 13:24 Another parable put he  forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:

25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.

26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.

27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?

28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?

29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.

30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

So while the progressives mock and say that “no religion is allowed in the state”, they have their own form of religion.  You might even say they have a few religious denominations or cults or religious sacraments, however you want to define them.

  • the sacrament of abortion
  • the religion of climate change
  • the cult of transgenderism

They even have their own prophet, the false prophet who spews out lies and propaganda in the media.

Revelation 19:20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

Revelation 12:5 And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.

Revelation 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Revelation 20:2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

To preach to others to separate church and state is disingenuous when they themselves do not separate their form of religion from the state.  One of the qualifications to be in political office in the current administration is to belong to one of their church’s denominations, such as transgenderism.

It is the double standard of…it’s good for me…but not for thee.

God never intended for righteousness and uprightness and morals to be separate from the state.

On the basis of holy scripture, who is currently in authority?  These are only a few verses; there are others than can be found in the Holy Bible.

Proverbs 29:2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

7 The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it.

8 Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath.

12 If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked.

If the church cowers and decides that the only way to beat them is to join them, and be culturally “sensitive” and not “give offense”, this is the danger of that position.  The tares get burned first.

Matthew 13:27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?

28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?

29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.

30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

Someone is always going to be offended about something.  Jesus did not change his message when people did not like it.  He put the onus on the followers to change their standard, not on himself.

Matthew 11: 6  And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

Christians should feel confident that they can bring righteousness to their communites, school boards, and government.

The progressives bring their religion.  That should mean equal opportunity for Christians.

Why Suffering?

Stepping back, looking objectively at the United States overall, based on what is spewed out day by day in the media, it would be not unreasonable to say that the United States is an apostate nation.

As such, having overall rejected God and God’s principles and morals, it should not be surprising that there is judgement.

And while the progressives like to talk about the separation of church and state, there should never be a separation of state and morals, or state and righteous character.

We see the consequences in abundance.

  • murderers and thieves let out of prison to enact more crimes
  • false accusations that attempt a convoluted legal manipulation of state and federal laws to concoct somethere whereby to indict political opposition
  • the unjust imprisonment of individuals who sought to exercise their Constitutional rights
  • the manipulation of the story line by the federal government
  • the theft of wealth through unjust monetary policy
  • lies and propagada
  • pedophilia
  • transgenderism
  • continued push for abortion
  • manipulated news in order to bring about a certain agenda
  • using other nations as proxies which results in great suffering to those nations
  • degeneration of education
  • murder through agencies that are supposed to preserve health
  • and more

Unless those of higher moral character, interested in the preservation of the rule of law, are willing to get into government and help turn the tide,  there there is little hope for change if secular, atheistic, progressive, modernist, globalists run nations.

Jesus said, “Occupy till I come.” (Luke 19:13b)

Moving from the national to the personal, suffering can cause people to turn to God with a greater depth of determination.

Jonah was running from God and hit a low point.  He was suffering.  Then he said this:

Jonah 2:7 When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.

From the Book of Psalms:

Psalm 61:2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Psalm 18:6 In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.

Psalm 31:22 For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee.

Suffering can cause a seeking of the Lord which can result in course corrections.

King Asa

Asa of Judah

King Asa was one of the kings of Judah. When he followed the Lord in obedience, when he commanded Judah to seek Jehovah the God of their fathers, and to practise the law and the commandment (2 Chron. 14:4) , he succeeded. At a certain point he turned to the arm of flesh, in other words, looked for man to help him more than God.

2 Chronicles 16:7  (Darby) And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and hast not relied on Jehovah thy God, therefore has the army of the king of Syria escaped out of thy hand.

8 Were not the Ethiopians and the Libyans a huge army, with very many chariots and horsemen? but when thou didst rely on Jehovah, he delivered them into thy hand.

9 For the eyes of Jehovah run to and fro through the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of those whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly; for from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

King Asa’s story starts here.

2 Chronicles 14:1 And Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David. And Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.

2 And Asa did what was good and right in the sight of Jehovah his God;

3 and he took away the altars of the strange [gods] and the high places, and broke the columns, and cut down the Asherahs;

4 and commanded Judah to seek Jehovah the God of their fathers, and to practise the law and the commandment.

5 And he removed out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the sun-images; and the kingdom was quiet before him.

6 And he built fortified cities in Judah, for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because Jehovah had given him rest.

7 And he said to Judah, Let us build these cities, and surround them with walls and towers, gates and bars, while the land is yet before us; for we have sought Jehovah our God; we have sought him, and he has given us rest on every side. And they built and prospered.

8 And Asa had an army that bore targets and spears: out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bore shields and drew the bow, two hundred and eighty thousand: all these, mighty men of valour.

9 And Zerah the Ethiopian came out against him with a host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots, and he came to Mareshah.

10 And Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah near Mareshah.

11 And Asa cried unto Jehovah his God, and said, Jehovah, it maketh no difference to thee to help, whether there be much or no power: help us, O Jehovah our God, for we rely on thee, and in thy name have we come against this multitude. Jehovah, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.

12 And Jehovah smote the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.

13 And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them to Gerar; and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that none of them was left alive; for they were crushed before Jehovah and before his army. And they carried away very much spoil.

14 And they smote all the cities round about Gerar, for the terror of Jehovah came upon them; and they spoiled all the cities, for there was very much spoil in them.

15 They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.

15:1 And the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded.

2 And he went out to meet Asa, and said to him, Hear ye me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin: Jehovah is with you while ye are with him; and if ye seek him he will be found of you, but if ye forsake him he will forsake you.

3 Now for a long while Israel [was] without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law;

4 but in their trouble they turned to Jehovah the God of Israel, and sought him, and he was found of them.

5 And in those times there [was] no peace to him that went out nor to him that came in, but great disturbances were amongst all the inhabitants of the countries.

6 And nation was broken against nation, and city against city; for God disturbed them with all manner of distress.

7 But as for you, be firm and let not your hands be weak; for there is a reward for your deeds.

8 And when Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominations out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities that he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of Jehovah, that was before the porch of Jehovah.

9 And he assembled all Judah and Benjamin, and the strangers with them out of Ephraim and Manasseh, and out of Simeon; for they fell away to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that Jehovah his God was with him.

10 And they assembled themselves at Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa.

11 And they sacrificed to Jehovah in that day, of the spoil that they had brought, seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep.

12 And they entered into a covenant to seek Jehovah the God of their fathers, with all their heart, and with all their soul,

13 and that whoever would not seek Jehovah the God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.

14 And they swore to Jehovah with a loud voice, and with shouting, and with trumpets, and with cornets.

15 And all Judah rejoiced at the oath; for they took the oath with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them. And Jehovah gave them rest round about.

16 And also Maachah, the mother of Asa the king, he removed from being queen, because she had made an idol for the Asherah; and Asa cut down her idol, and stamped it, and burned it in the valley Kidron.

17 But the high places were not removed from Israel; only, Asa’s heart was perfect all his days.

18 And he brought into the house of God the things which his father had dedicated, and the things which he himself had dedicated, silver, and gold, and vessels.

19 And there was no war until the thirty-fifth year of the reign of Asa.

16:1 In the thirty-sixth year of the reign of Asa, Baasha king of Israel came up against Judah, and built Ramah, in order to let none go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.

2 And Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of Jehovah and of the king’s house, and sent to Ben-hadad king of Syria, who dwelt at Damascus, saying,

3 There is a league between me and thee, and between my father and thy father: behold, I send thee silver and gold; go, break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.

4 And Ben-hadad hearkened to king Asa, and sent the captains of his forces against the cities of Israel; and they smote Ijon and Dan and Abelmaim, and all the store-magazines of the cities of Naphtali.

5 And it came to pass when Baasha heard of it, that he left off building Ramah, and let his work cease.

6 And king Asa took all Judah; and they carried away the stones and the timber from Ramah, with which Baasha had been building, and he built with them Geba and Mizpah.

7 And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and hast not relied on Jehovah thy God, therefore has the army of the king of Syria escaped out of thy hand.

10 And Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in the prison; for he was enraged with him because of this. And Asa oppressed some of the people at the same time.

11 And behold the acts of Asa, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

12 And Asa in the thirty-ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was extremely great; yet in his disease he did not seek Jehovah, but the physicians.

13 And Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the one-and-fortieth year of his reign.

14 And they buried him in his own sepulchre, which he had excavated for himself in the city of David, and laid him in a bed filled with spices, a mixture of divers kinds prepared by the perfumer’s art; and they made a very great burning for him.

Consequences

Image link

The universe is run by laws. God’s laws.  Without studying them, we are ignorant of them.

So often God is blamed for the consequences of sins of commission or omission on man’s part, or on a nation’s part.

Matthew 21:44 And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s poetic rendering is this.

“Though the mills of God grind slowly, yet they grind exceeding small; Though with patience He stands waiting, with exactness grinds He all.” Source

If there are problems it is more profitable to see where there has been a transgression of law, either by commission or omission, rather than blame God.

I heard a story about the death of a relatively young person. My thought was…did he take the jab?

When something bad happens, there are those who say it was God’s will.  Was it really God’s will or was it the consequences of ignorance and disobedience to God’s Word?

Hosea 4:6 6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

Was something done that should not have been done?   Or was something left undone that needed to be done?

If a born again believer spends time with God the first thing of each day, a believer can receive instruction and warning to help navigate the day.

Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

Psalm 2

AokiShigeru-1906-Psalm of David

Psalm 2:1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?

2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying,

3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.

6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

7 I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.

10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.

11 Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

Acts 4:20-24

Herod's Palace at Caesarea-Lower Tiers-A (3865401280)

Ian Scott, CC BY-SA 2.0, via Wikimedia Commons

Acts 4:20 (KJV) And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king’s chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king’s country.

21 And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.

22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.

23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

24 But the word of God grew and multiplied.

The Emperor’s New Clothes 2.0

The Emperor's New Clothes (Street Procession)

Here is a  link to The Emperor’s New Clothes, in case you are not familiar with that story.

The story ends, so we never know….

Did all the King’s Men get tired of the emperor spending  kingdom money for nothing?  for spending it on knaves and thieves?

Did all the King’s Men do anything about it?  Or were they paid off amply enough that they decided not to be whistleblowers, even if they had to humiliate themselves by associating with such a king?

Did the little boy grow up and decide it was time for new management in the kingdom?  Did the little boy decide enough resources had been stolen from his generation, enough opportunity had been stolen from his generation, enough of the future had been stolen from his generation, that it was time to do something?

Did anyone else finally confess to seeing the true state of the emperor?  Or did they continue to see what they were told to see and the deny the reality of what they actually saw?   Because no one else spoke up, did they kept silent?

The story ends.  We don’t know.

We do have the example of the children of Israel.  They escaped Egypt through the deliverance of God and the leadership of Moses, and then wandered in the desert 40 years, missing the promised land.  After 40 years of wandering, the kids were tired of it.   When Moses died and Joshua, the appointed successor of Moses, took over, the kids were ready to move on from a failed past.

Here’s some of the historical background. You can read the rest in the Old Testament.

Numbers 14:20 (KJV) And the Lord said, I have pardoned according to thy word:

21 But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord.

22 Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;

23 Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it:

24 But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.

25 (Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) Tomorrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.

26 And the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

27 How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.

28 Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the Lord, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:

29 Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward which have murmured against me.

30 Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

31 But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised.

Moses died and Joshua became the leader.

Joshua 1:1 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord it came to pass, that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying,

2 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.

Notice that in verse 18 the kids were determined to move on from the failed past.   If necessary, they were ready for their own version of Nuremberg II.

Joshua 1:10 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,

11 Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the Lord your God giveth you to possess it.

12 And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh, spake Joshua, saying,

13 Remember the word which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, The Lord your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.

14 Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan; but ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valour, and help them;

15 Until the Lord have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which the Lord your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the Lord’s servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising.

16 And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go.

17 According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only the Lord thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses.

18 Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage.

103.The Ammonite and Moabite Armies Are Destroyed

“The Ammonite and Moabite Armies are Destroyed”
Gustave Doré, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons

Nehemiah 13:1 On that day they read in the book of Moses in the audience of the people; and therein was found written, that the Ammonite and the Moabite should not come into the congregation of God for ever;

2 Because they met not the children of Israel with bread and with water, but hired Balaam against them, that he should curse them: howbeit our God turned the curse into a blessing.

There are those who complain about giving to God.  They don’t complain about giving to Wal-Mart when they go buy a big screen TV or to their pharmaceutical company when they pick up their medicines or to the movie theater when they pay to see a movie.  But it is fashionable to complain when asked to give to God.

God is the only one who offers a benefit for giving.  Try getting this from Wal-Mart, your pharmacy, your movie theater or anyone else.

Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts.

12 And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the Lord of hosts.

It is worth reading that in the context of the whole chapter.

Malachi 3:1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts.

2 But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap:

3 And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.

4 Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the Lord, as in the days of old, and as in former years.

5 And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the Lord of hosts.

6 For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

7 Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the Lord of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?

8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.

9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.

10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

13 Your words have been stout against me, saith the Lord. Yet ye say, What have we spoken so much against thee?

14 Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the Lord of hosts?

15 And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered.

16 Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name.

17 And they shall be mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.

18 Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.

There are those that complain that they don’t want to give because they think the funds are misappropriated.

There are ministries who have audits so if that concerns you, find one.

And out of all the probably hundreds of thousands of churches, ministries, and gospel-based organizations you can’t find one you believe in giving to…did you look very hard?

You should give to the church you eat from, in terms of spiritual food and nourishment and teaching.  Find the church that feeds you the gospel.

You don’t eat at McDonald’s and pay Chik-fil-a or vice versa.

You don’t buy a Honda and pay Ford.

The natural world is structured after the spiritual world, and not vice versa.

Matthew 6:10  Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Principles of order, of remittance for benefits received, still apply.

I Timothy 5:18 For the scripture saith, thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.

Probably one of the biggest failures to “give back” for benefits received applies to God.

God is often looked on like a lottery machine, a slot machine; throw up a prayer, toss in an offering, and hope the blessings will come out.

And then there is complaining when there is not a flood of blessings.

A walk with God is a lifestyle, not a toss up or a flipping of the coin.

We would question the idea that a one-time change of a meal and a one-time trip to a gym would solve all health problems and give someone a award winning physique.  We know better.  We would question the idea that someone could even think that that might be possible.

It’s a lifestyle.  It takes a healthy lifestyle to have ongoing health.

When it comes to God, an occasional visit at Easter and Christmas will not do what ongoing regular church, Bible study, regular devotions, and a relationship with the Lord will accomplish.

Yet, in this world that tempts us with quick and easy fixes to everything…the 7 day diet, cramming for the mid-term tests, life hacks…perhaps that influences thinking regarding God as well.

Slow and steady wins the race.  The tortoise won, not the hare*.

* Since some in today’s audience may not know Aesop’s fable, it is reproduced here.

The Hare and the Tortoise

The Hare was once boasting of his speed before the other animals. “I
have never yet been beaten,” said he, “when I put forth my full speed.
I challenge any one here to race with me.”

The Tortoise said quietly, “I accept your challenge.”

“That is a good joke,” said the Hare; “I could dance round you all the
way.”

“Keep your boasting till you’ve beaten,” answered the Tortoise. “Shall
we race?”

So a course was fixed and a start was made. The Hare darted almost out
of sight at once, but soon stopped and, to show his contempt for the
Tortoise, lay down to have a nap. The Tortoise plodded on and plodded
on, and when the Hare awoke from his nap, he saw the Tortoise just near
the winning-post and could not run up in time to save the race. Then
said the Tortoise:

“Plodding wins the race.”
