Jurisdiction

The topic of “jurisdiction” is important in legal circles.  It is why if a person gets a driving violation ticket in Nevada, that same person does not go to Massachusetts to pay the fine.

I believe that jurisdiction is an underrated and understated topic in Christian circles and also a major part of why the nation is in the trouble it is in.

Much of the Bible is universal.  But there are certain places where there are certain distinctions that I will call distinctions of jurisdiction.  Sometimes messages were directed towards leaders.  Sometimes messages were directed towards common folk.  Perhaps there is a better term than jurisdiction, but I don’t know it.

Here is one general jurisdiction that applies to all of mankind.

Psalm 115:16 The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.

People complain, why doesn’t God do anything?

Psalm 115:16 The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.

Whose responsibility is it?

Psalm 115:16 The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.

Mark 16:20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

Does it say, they working with the Lord or the Lord working with them?

Mark 16:20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

So confusion of roles can lead to confusion of expectations.  As long as we do our part, God is always faithful to do his part.  And the Bible is full of exhortations as to what “our part” is, which is why consistent Bible study and church attendance is necessary to learn.

Another place of confusion is that of the public sector and the private sector.  When it comes to legal matters, it matters if someone is operating within the valid authority of an official position in government; under “color of law,” in other words, it seems official but isn’t; or under the private capacity.

I’m not saying this as a lawyer or theologian, because I am neither.  However, as a person reasonably well-studied and read, I believe that the Old Testament requirements for leaders are strict and must be followed in a similar manner if there is to be hope for a nation.

Jesus in the sermon on the mount was talking to average, what we would call, private citizens.  However, they at that time in history did not enjoy the rights and freedoms that have been granted under the Constitution, but which are in the process of being lost.

I believe that perhaps some politicians are beginning to come to the realization of the distinction of roles.

If there are those who read this and say “Oh, we don’t do that, we are Christians, we are going to be kind to corruption in our government,” then I would say that all the western Allies who fought in WWII against Hitler were hypocrites.  Why didn’t they just turn the other cheek and let Hitler run over the world?  Why not let despots in any nation rule if you want to go by that philosophy?  If it is okay to resist evil in other nations, then why is it not okay to resist evil here at home?  In the article, and I will post the link at the bottom of this article, Trump calls on the DAs and AGs to “get off the mat.”

Why is the United States fighting a war in Ukraine “to the last Ukrainian”?  It is because the Ukraine war feeds the military industrial complex that Eisenhower warned about as he left office.  It is also because the United States has broken treaties and forced the hand of Russia.  The United States is quite guilty for this war, but again, the cry is always, “Russia, Russia, Russia.”  The citizens of the United States ought to be eternally grateful to the Russians that they have withstood the slandering of their nation by the corrupt leaders and media in the United States.  Russians are simply trying to preserve their own nation, which is understandable.  If China built military bases on the Mexican and Canadian border, how would the United States react?  Well, that might be the wrong question with a Manchurian candidate in office, but under normal circumstances, how would the United States react?  Russia is simply defending its way of life and they have returned to Orthodox Christianity, despite propaganda to the contrary.  LBGTQ+ is not welcome in Russia.

In any case, with the question of jurisdiction being touched on in this post, I agree with President Trump. AGs and DAs … and let’s add governors and state and national congressmen and judges and sheriffs to that list … they all need to operate by law that is in place rather than turning the other cheek and going the second mile; when in government dealing with evil, they are bound by the laws of government; they are not to be doormats or wimpy spineless gentlemen who get nothing done.  They weren’t elected to do that.  They have delegated authority.  They need to fight fire with fire.  They have the tools.  Use them.
